In a release, Big Ten assistant commissioner Kenny Kerry said there will be an annual rotation among the league’s four Eastern-most league members (Maryland, Ohio State, Penn State and Rutgers) with the new formula. From Kerry’s comments:
Rather than protecting a single opponent on a yearly basis for the remaining eight teams, annual rotations involving the four eastern teams (Maryland, Ohio State, Penn State and Rutgers) and the four western teams (Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska and Wisconsin) have been strategically developed to optimize travel, academic and recovery impacts while encouraging increased competition among institutions that are near each other geographically. Increasing the frequency of conference competition allows the Big Ten to compete across a larger footprint, while respecting history and balancing the needs of our students, coaches and fans.
Took just one day for the latter-day absurdity to return.
Red Sox-Rays opener Thursday. Boston led, 4-0, after six, which is when starter Chris Sale was removed. In came reliever Matt Barnes, who pitched a 1, 2, 3 inning.
Still, new Red Sox manager Alex Cora brought in Joe Kelly in the eighth. In one-third of an inning he allowed a hit, three walks and was charged with four earned runs.
With Joe Flacco struggling in recent seasons, the Baltimore Ravens might be looking to the future. The Ravens already added Robert Griffin III to the quarterback room and could import a rookie in next week’s draft.
For his part, the longtime starter isn’t fretting over the possibility of general manager Ozzie Newsome using his final first-round pick on a quarterback.
Brandon Coleman is staying in New Orleans.
The wideout is re-signing with the Saints , a source informed of the situation told NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. The team chose not to tender Coleman as a restricted free agent, making him free to sign with another team.
It also helped Houston’s cause that Minnesota’s other All-Star, center Karl-Anthony Towns, had the kind of awful playoff debut that will invite a lot of criticism during the three long days before Game 2. Towns was oddly an afterthought offensively, scoring only eight points on 3-of-9 shooting.
I’ve got to be better on both sides of the basketball [court], Towns said.
